Alan Schnurman is a hard man to peg down.

As has been routine for most of his adult life, the retired attorney and longtime real estate investor is up and about several hours before dawn each day, walking the streets near his Manhattan home, regardless of the season or weather. Completed for as long as he can remember, his solitary journey allows him to mentally prepare himself for the day that lies ahead, one that now typically involves research on prospective real estate opportunities in the Hamptons, New York City, Aspen, Colorado, New Jersey and, most recently, upstate New York.

Real estate investor Alan Schnurman and Dan’s Hamptons Media COO Eric Feil have written “I Can, I Will, I Must: Buying the Hamptons, Building a Successful Future, Becoming the Best You Can Be.”

It’s a collection of life lessons offered through real estate tips and stories about how the Hamptons was really built.

Schnurman is a broker and lawyer who founded 1-800-LAWLINE. One of Schnurman’s properties, which is now near Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s, was once owned by Paul McCartney’s former father-in-law, the art collector/entertainment lawyer Lee Eastman.

On viewing the property, Schnurman opened a closet in the smallest bedroom — only to find art by Willem de Kooning.

In his early years, Schnurman worked as a New York cabbie.

One of his customers was Walter Cronkite, who later became his neighbor in the United Nations Plaza area.

Broker-lawyer, media exec tout Hamptons real estate buying tips in new book

Dan’s Hamptons Media COO Eric Feil and attorney-broker Alan Schurman released this month a compilation of lessons learned and best practices from their experience acquiring coveted East End real estate, 27east reported. “I Can, I Will, I Must: Buying the Hamptons, Buying a Successful Future, Becoming the Best You Can Be,” seeks to serve as a buyer’s guide for those interested in investing in Hamptons real estate, as well as provide stories about how the exclusive enclave came to be built, as noted earlier this month by the New York Post. Schnurman, a founder of 1-800-LAWLINE, retired in 2011 as a senior partner at personal injury and insurance law firm Zalman Schnurman & Miner and joined Saunders & Associates the following year as a broker in Bridgehampton. In less than a year, Schnurman earned a commission from a $15.5 million sale, according to 27east, which noted that the retired lawyer has invested millions of dollars in real estate since he began buying up properties in the 1970s.

Alan Schnurman always has a smile on his face. He is dressed impeccably and ambles with an aura of happiness as he walks into Pierre’s, where we sat down for a chat about his new book. “I Can, I Will, I Must — Buying the Hamptons, Building a Successful Future, Becoming the Best You Can Be,” published by Sagg Main Press, can be purchased through Amazon.com.

Schnurman’s life could have turned out very differently. He came from humble beginnings — a first-generation immigrant raised by a single mother in Brooklyn who drove a New York City cab to put himself through law school. He follows his own version of the “Power of Attraction” to which he attributes his many successes. His attained goals include manifesting a life as a successful lawyer, TV and internet content pioneer, multi marathon runner, Mount Everest explorer, and today he is one of the most successful real estate brokers on the East End.
